Another advantage of our bed system is that no metal components are used in it – meaning no EMF pollution from within the bed. Why is this important to have no such pollution coming out of your bed, you may ask? It is very simple. Every piece of metal has a electromagnetic field , whether it is your cell phone, your TV, the springs in your box spring or the metal frame that your box spring rests on.

Electric and magnetic fields “are invisible areas of energy, often referred to as radiation, that are associated with the use of electrical power and various forms of natural and man-made lighting.” (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences). In the last few decades multiple studies have been conducted, showing the potential impacts these EMFs can have on the human body. A number of these studies can be found here: http://www.powerwatch.org.uk/science/studies.asp

Metal versus No Metal (no EMF)

No EMF, no metal in bed, no EMF pollution

By having no metal in our beds (i.e. no EMF pollution from within the bed), we can provide a place where your whole body, including your subconscious, gets a chance to rest and regenerate (Fig.1).

In the second picture on the left, you can see a diagram of what this field looks like on any bed that has a box spring unit (Fig.2). You can see that the field is the strongest in the middle of the bed, the place where we sleep. No EMF, no metal in bed, no EMF pollutionThe effects of electromagnetism have been widely studied and they all point to the same conclusion. Whether it is the TV in your bedroom, your cell phone, Wi-Fi, radio tower, windmill, etc., all of these have a negative impact on human health. It is not something we can touch or feel, rather it affects our nervous system. When we go to sleep to recover from one day and prepare for the next, it is crucially important that our subconscious and our nervous system get equally rested.

An article published in the Scientific American refers to studies done in Sweden that suggest the possible link between the EMFS amplified through your bed and certain types of cancer (http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/guest-blog/left-sided-cancer-blame-your-bed-and-tv/). The author makes the following statement:

“Thus, as we sleep on our coil-spring mattresses, we are in effect sleeping on an antenna that amplifies the intensity of the broadcast FM/TV radiation. Asleep on these antennas, our bodies are exposed to the amplified electromagnetic radiation for a third of our life spans. As we slumber on a metal coil-spring mattress, a wave of electromagnetic radiation envelops our bodies so that the maximum strength of the field develops 75 centimeters above the mattress in the middle of our bodies.”

Summary

It is fair to say that people suffering from insomnia do not have to search for very long to find a major contributor to their problem. Other simple but very important measures that can be taken include the following:

  • remove all electronics from the bedroom
  • turn off WiFi overnight
  • do not place your bed under a window or close the the door
  • avoid having big mirrors in your bedroom
  • avoid having your bedroom above the garage
  • don’t have your bedroom above the boiler/heater room
  • avoid having your bedroom above major electric circuitry
  • check for underground water (dowsing)
  • in short no EMFs in your bedroom

No EMF, no metal in bed, no EMF pollutionIn order to build a bed that is completely free of metal components (i.e. no EMF from within), a special connection system was developed. It is the first one of its kind and currently has its Patent pending. The connector is made out of fibreglass reinforced polymers whose strength is comparable to that of a trailer hitch.
